CATHRINE RABEN DAVIDSEN
Born 1972. Lives and works in Copenhagen. The work of Danish artist Cathrine Raben Davidsen draw on an incisive awareness of contemporary culture. In her work she often unites divergent influences from the history of art and literature. The titles typically indicate the reference she makes. But these are not illustrations or straightforward paraphrases. Rather, they are independent interpretations in a language that is enigmatic and hermetic, yet at the same time drawing the viewer in and engaging in a clear dialogue with history. With the use of sampling of historical and contemporary idioms, Raben Davidsen creates a dialogue between past and present, where eternally valid and existential themes are treated.
Since the education at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 2003, she has had soloexhibitions at several museums for instance at Horsens Museum of Modern Art, Denmark (2008), dARTex, China (2008), Vestsjællands Museum of Art, Denmark (2006) and Ama Gallery, Finland (2005). In 2010 she will have a solo exhibition at Trapholt Museum of Art, Denmark. She is represented in the collections of The Danish National Gallery as well as other important public and private collections.
