JACOB STANGERUP
Jacob Stangerup (b. 1971) lives and works in Copenhagen. From 1996 to 2000 he studied and worked with the Danish sculptor Jørgen Haugen Sørensen in Pietrasanta, Italy.
First solo exhibition "Other studies..." in 2005 at Sophienholm / Cobra-Huset, Denmark. First solo exhibition at Martin Asbæk Projects "Mode d’emploi" in 2008.
Although trained as a sculptor, Jacob Stangerup's work spans silkscreen-printing, photogravure and drawing. The time he spent in Italy and his fascination with classical sculpture and painting have undoubtedly impacted his work which reflects his devotion to the figurative. Human anatomy seduces him and remains the focal point of his work, whether it is in his dialog with anatomical inventions/constructions, his manuals on how to construct sculptures from found objects or his depictions of the nude body.
Upcomming exhibition at Martin Asbæk Gallery October 2010.
